The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland provides a grant of up to EUR 1,800 for homeowners installing solar PV panels. The grant is deducted directly from your installer invoice. Zero VAT on solar panel supply and installation since May 2023.

ELIGIBILITY
Who Can Apply for the Solar Grant
The SEAI solar PV grant is available to most Irish homeowners. Around 97% of domestic solar installations receive SEAI grant approval.
- You must be the owner of the property where the solar panels will be installed
- The property must have been built and occupied before 31 December 2020 (based on electricity meter connection date)
- The property must have an active MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) from ESB Networks
- The property must not have previously received an SEAI solar PV grant at this MPRN
- You must use an installer registered on the SEAI Solar PV Approved Installer list
- You must receive grant approval from SEAI before any installation work begins
WHAT IS COVERED
What the Solar Grant Covers
Solar PV Panels
The grant covers the supply and installation of solar photovoltaic panels on your roof. Typical residential systems are 3 to 6 kW, using 8 to 16 panels. The grant amount scales with system size up to the EUR 1,800 maximum at 4 kWp.
Inverter and Wiring
Your solar inverter converts DC power from the panels into AC power for your home. The grant covers the inverter, all electrical wiring, and connection to your consumer unit. SolarEdge and Enphase are the most commonly installed brands in Ireland.
SEAI Grant Administration
Your SEAI registered installer handles the full grant application on your behalf. The EUR 1,800 grant is deducted directly from your invoice so you never pay the full price upfront. No separate paperwork for you.
BER Assessment
A post-installation BER (Building Energy Rating) assessment is required to complete the grant process. Solar panels typically improve your BER by 1 to 3 grades, increasing your property value.
HOW TO APPLY
How to Get Your Solar Grant
Apply on SEAI.ie
Create an account on the SEAI portal and submit your solar PV grant application. You will need your MPRN, eircode, and property details. SEAI will review your application and issue a Letter of Offer.
Choose Your Installer
Select an installer from the SEAI Solar PV Approved Installer list. They will conduct a site survey, design your system, and provide a quote with the EUR 1,800 grant already deducted.
Install and Claim
Your installer completes the installation (typically 1 to 2 days), arranges your BER assessment, and submits the NC6 form to ESB Networks. SEAI processes your grant payment after all documentation is submitted.

Solar Grant Questions
The maximum SEAI solar PV grant is EUR 1,800 in 2026, confirmed by Minister O’Brien in November 2025. The grant is calculated on a pro rata basis: EUR 700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp, then EUR 200 per kWp up to 4 kWp. A 4 kWp system or larger receives the full EUR 1,800.
No. You must receive your Letter of Offer from SEAI before any installation work begins. Work completed before the grant offer date is not eligible for funding. Once approved, you have 8 months to complete the installation.
No. The SEAI solar PV grant is for solar panels only and has no connection to electric vehicle ownership. However, pairing solar panels with an EV charger lets you charge your car using free solar electricity.
The government had originally planned to reduce the grant by EUR 300 per year until 2029. However, the 2026 grant was maintained at EUR 1,800. Future years are not confirmed, so applying now locks in the current rate.
There is no separate SEAI grant for battery storage in 2026. The solar PV grant covers panels and inverters only. However, many installers offer battery packages, and the Accelerated Capital Allowance (ACA) provides tax relief for businesses investing in battery storage.
