WHAT IS COVERED

What the EV Charger Grant Covers

🔌

Smart EV Charger Unit

The grant covers purchase of an SEAI-approved smart charger. Eligible brands include Zappi, Ohme, Easee, and Wallbox. Smart functionality allows scheduled charging on off-peak night rates, reducing your charging costs by up to 85%.

🔧

Professional Installation

Full electrical installation by a Safe Electric registered electrician. Includes cable routing from your consumer unit to the charger location, mounting, and all connection work. A Safe Electric Completion Certificate (Cert 3) is issued after testing.

📱

Smart Charging Setup

Your installer sets up the charger app on your phone. Schedule charging for night rate tariffs (as low as 5.45c per kWh with Pinergy EV Drive Time), monitor energy usage, and integrate with solar panels if you have them.

📄

Documentation and Compliance

Your electrician provides all required documentation: Safe Electric Cert 3, test record sheet, installation photos, and detailed invoice. These are submitted to SEAI to process your EUR 300 grant payment.

COMMON QUESTIONS

EV Charger Grant Questions

Do I need to own an electric vehicle to get the grant?

No. Since January 2024, the grant is open to all homeowners regardless of whether they own an EV. Many people install a home charger before purchasing their electric vehicle to future-proof their property.

What chargers are eligible for the grant?

Only smart chargers listed on the SEAI Smart Charger Register are eligible. These include models from Zappi, Ohme, Easee, Wallbox, and others. Your installer can confirm which models qualify. The charger must have load management and smart scheduling capability.

How much does an EV charger cost after the grant?

A typical home EV charger installation costs between EUR 800 and EUR 1,500 before the grant. After the EUR 300 SEAI grant, most homeowners pay between EUR 500 and EUR 1,200. The exact cost depends on the charger brand and complexity of the electrical work.

Can I install an EV charger if I live in an apartment?

The standard home charger grant requires off-street parking linked to your property. However, ZEVI offers a separate EV Apartment Charging Grant for residents in multi-unit developments without driveways. Contact SEAI for details.

How long does the installation take?

Most EV charger installations take 2 to 4 hours. The process from application to completed installation is usually 2 to 4 weeks, depending on SEAI processing time and installer availability.
